Tom Cruise’s highest-rated film is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video. While most people consider the Mission: Impossible franchise as the American actor’s best films, fans on Rotten Tomatoes have given the title to a different film.
Tom Cruise is regarded as a Hollywood icon and has won three Golden Globe Awards. His films, which include Mission: Impossible, Jack Reacher, A Few Good Men and Valkyrie, have grossed over $12 billion across the world. However, fans have given one an impressive 99% score on review site Rotten Tomatoes.
Top Gun: Maverick, which was released in 2022, is available to rent on Amazon Prime Video. Reviewers give the film a near flawless score with one saying it was “the most entertaining film I’ve seen in years”.
As well as Tom Cruise, Top Gun: Maverick, directed by Joseph Kosinski, features Miles Teller, Glen Powell, Jennifer Connelly, and Monica Barbaro. The story involves Cruise, playing Maverick, train a group of Top Gun graduates for a dangerous mission.
The Rotten Tomatoes plot overview reads: “After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him.
“When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: ‘Rooster,’ the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka ‘Goose’.”
It adds: “Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.”
The film grossed almost $1.5 billion worldwide which made it the second-highest grossing movie in 2022. It is also the highest-grossing film of Tom Cruise’s career.
The film features the iconic Top Gun Anthem as well as two singles, “Hold My Hand” by Lady Gaga and “I Ain’t Worried” by OneRepublic. Both singles achieved high positions in the UK Official Trending Chart after the film was released.
Ethan C said in a review on Rotten Tomatoes: “Over the last few years, I have watched this film way more times than I could count. This is easily becoming a top 7 film for me. The amount of action, situation and character development, and cinematography is unmatched.”
Stephen T added: “This was without a doubt the most entertaining film I’ve seen in years, and a refreshing break from the usual drivel that seems to pump out of Hollywood these days. Every actor nailed their performance, and there was not a wasted moment in the show. I am so glad this film was made.”
Luke H wrote: “A superb piece of cinema. Everything you want from a film which reboots a franchise. The acting is bang on, the writing too.
“The soundtrack hits every note you’d want and the cinematography is unbelievably good. It’s rare that you can sit and watch a film one day, and then opt to watch it back 48 hours later, but this is the kind of quality film you’re happy to do that with.”
