EDF gives customers free electricity on five dates in June and July | Personal Finance | Finance

Energy giant EDF has confirmed it will give customers free electricity on five June and July dates.

The firm has brought back its popular Sunday Saver challenge for June, which sees customers who sign up given the chance to earn and use 80 hours of free electricity through four key dates.

The challenge kicks off on Monday, June 2 and runs for the entire month, giving customers who sign up to participate before the end of July 1 the chance to get free power on three June Sundays and two July Sundays. EDF has given away £2M in electricity so far with its Sunday Savers, and next month will give customers another chance to charge and blast everything they own on a Sunday without paying a penny for it.

To qualify for the free hours, participating customers must shift their electricity use away from peak hours during weekdays (ie 4 to 7pm) and then will be able to earn 16 hours of free electricity to use the following Sunday.

The free electricity days will be June 15, June 22, June 29 and July 6 and July 13.

EDF says it is the only energy provider offering five Sundays of free electricity in June and July, helping customers save cash on their bills and make the most of their weekends this summer.

Rich Hughes, Director of Retail at EDF, commented: “We launched Sunday Saver to help customers save cash and carbon, all while contributing to a more sustainable energy system.

“We’re thrilled that over 154,000 customers have already benefitted from free electricity as a reward for adjusting their daily usage habits and helping to ease the strain on the electricity grid during peak times.”

Customers must sign up for the June challenge before June 1 at 11:59pm, ahead of the challenge starting on Monday June 2.

To be eligible, customers will need a working smart meter for their electricity supply that is sending EDF readings every 30 minutes.
